You want facts?

After several weeks of stewing I have decided its time to be straight forward. A few weeks ago the person at the root of all the post regarding terrible neglect of my pets happened upon my blog and decided to, I assume out of guilt and shame, read all of my blog posts, found out I had wrote on my blog about that incident. He found out that we were not exactly believing someone broke into the house and took my monitor from a blog post written at the time that was all going down (sometime in july was the blog date, he was reading in late October) and he went ballistic. He called me and said some rather nasty things, what balls someone who deceived and defrauded someone must have to call them up and cuss them out over the phone.  Long story short and cuss words removed, he said something about ‘facts’ and ‘being bad for his image’ as a general contractor.  Previously I did not mention names, however, since we are wanting facts, lets include them.

I have been extremely fair in this entire incident. Extremely fair. But if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck… or in simple scientific terms the simplest explanation is usually right. So, lets go back in time for our new readers, so we can fully account for the rant to come. So here are some facts, surrounding the incident.

After we were forced due to stupidity I will not get into, to go back teaming over the road in January of this year we had to find someone to take care of the animals at home. Since the person we had hired before, Ross, had done such a wonderful job previously doing this we decided to offer him the job first. A job he accepted. The job was a simple one, feed the cats, feed the dog, make sure they are ok, make sure they have water, and take care of the litter boxes as well as any messes they might make.

When we left the house in his care, we gave him a key. There was not much in the way of ‘valuables’ in the house at this time, except my desktop computer, and its components, a few kitchen appliances, and the big screen tv. It is important to note that when we left there were seven litter boxes in in the house. Five were large Tupperware storage containers, the 6.00 plastic totes they sell at walmart, I believe they are 40 gallon size or something like that. They had a hole cut into them to allow access. There were 2 smaller enclosed litterboxes.

When we left some things were established, cats were not to be in the master bedroom, that room was pretty much untouched by cats. When we left we paid for 2 weeks in advance, and left 4 bags of cat food, one and half bags of dog food, and 4 boxes of litter. Enough for 3 weeks, easily.

We then began paying weekly, I will admit we did not always pay on the exact same day but we did pay without fail. We also forwarded extra money for the animals food and litter. The last such payment was on July 2nd, in which we sent money for food, and his payment. On July 9th I found out that my cats had been seized days earlier. Not once did I get told the animals were gone by Ross.

I found out when a police officer left a garbled message on my cell phone, my phone did not get that message to me until late that evening, it frequently didn’t alert me to voice mail I found it when I checked. It took a lot of calling to find out what happened. This is the accounting to what was found by Animal Control:

Animal control had been called to the house because of a foul smell coming from the yard. When they arrived they found a window opened and the front door unlocked. With the smell and worried about foul play, they called the police to assist, and they entered the house. Upon entering the house they found the cats, all thin, with no food available and several looking sick. There were also apparently fleas, and the house was in absolute disgusting condition. The only water with the cats was about 2 inches in the sink of disgusting stinky water. Then they found the dog, dead, under our camper. They posted a notice on the house and then got a warrant. No one responded to the notice within 24 hours and they seized the animals.
